Professionals Real Estate Group has welcomed the launch of the new Endowed Chairs Program by the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
Since 2003, Professionals throughout Australia have raised $3,053,654 to assist research programs supported by the NBCF.
Breast cancer is the most common life-threatening cancer facing Australian women, with eight women tragically dying from the disease each day.
Shane Kempton, CEO of Professionals said the group were proud supporters of the wonderful research work into breast cancer that the National Breast Cancer Foundation funds every year.
“As a Diamond Partner of the NBCF, our group is keen for the NBCF to achieve its goal of achieving zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
“The new Endowed Chairs Program will play a key part in helping to achieve this goal by keeping mid-career researchers in Australia and focused on research that will lead to the next major breast cancer breakthrough,
“This unique initiative by the NBCF comprises two long-term 10-year research grants for a total value of $5 million each, which includes a co-contribution from the recipients’ host institutions.
“The first two awardees of the Endowed Chair Program are: Associate Professor Elgene Lim from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in NSW (UNSW Australia) and Associate Professor Sherene Loi from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Victoria (The University of Melbourne).
“In particular, the longer-term duration of Endowed Chairs will help these researchers advance ground breaking breast cancer research projects that will have maximum impact on patient treatment and care, meaning that the benefits of the research will be passed on to affected women and men much faster.
“Research is the only way to improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated by funding only world-class research through initiatives such as the Endowed Chairs Program, the NBCF is working towards achieving its wonderful goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030,” he said
